Where do they stand?

With just a week to go before the election we thought we should share the Candidates answers to your questions. Not a great response unfortunetly, would have thought the candidates would have been more keen to let us know what they believe. Its hard to vote for someone if you know nothing about them.

Have a read and see what you think and maybe later we'll post a short poll to see which party the majority of Readers are going for.

Please see below the list of parties standing in each area. The ones in BLUE underlined have responded to your questions and a PDF of their responses will open if you click them. We are still awaiting responses from the rest though a few have been in touch to say they will respond soon.

The party which currently holds each area is indicated in bold.

We're not the only people the Candidates have not got back to yet. The "Democracy Club" set up a national survey of questions and sent to all candidates but sadly again the Glasgow Candidates responses have been very low.  If you want them to tell you where they stand then click the link and give them a nudge.

Poor show from the Candidates Its pretty hard to know where anyone stands these days. All we seem to be getting to go on are the TV debates but then they only show us three leaders and don't reflect all the other parties or even the other people within those parties.

This is terrible. We shouldn't be asked to vote for anyone without knowning what they personally believe. Pretty shocking by the standing MPs not to bother with this or the democracy club questions. Typical of the way Labour have gone about things in the last few years.

Maybe Labour just want to keep quiet and hope no one notices them sneaking back into number ten. Its a safer strategy than showing the public how they really feel about the issues as this arguement between Glasgow South candidate and the Power 2010 campaign shows.

I agree thats its a shame that the current sitting MPs have not replied to your questions but the lack of response is across all parties. They must have great demands on their time at the moment so its understandable but a great shame that they are missing this opportunity to tell people what they believe.

Though remember that many of the candidates have taken part in local hustings. Obviously that only meant sharing their views with a few hundred people rather a a few thousand.

If you want them to answer then send them an email reminder or click on the democracy club and give them your support.

The Democracy club is a great idea. It should be law that there is a central location that collates all the parties dodgy leaflets, local candidates beliefs and the manifesto promises so we can see what they are all about.

Its a brilliant demonstration of how democracy should work and good on the volunteers for their hard work. Shame it didn't get more coverage earlier on so more people could have got invovled.

I don't think the parties have realised the key to this election is not the economy, or immigration or education its on reform. Its on rethinking how every aspect of our democracy works so that all the issues above can actually be sensibly looked at and debated and sound advances/ directions can be agreed. If the tories end up in power with just 36% of the vote it would mean the elected government will be in power despite only 1 in 5 of people of voting age, voting for them. Thats messed up

Glad to see people are quite passionate about this all.

Just thought we should also point out that we have used the Candidate's email addressess as provided on the "They work for you" website and in some cases where its a party email address there may potentially be a delay in the questions having left us and arriving at the correct person.

We should only vote for people who have responded.

some good answers there from the Green and SSP candidates in particular. Very helpful in deciding where my vote is going and a good list of questions.

Labour not bothering to answer questions in this constituency because they hold so large a majority its better for them to just keep quiet.

More risk of saying something to annoy the public and loose votes than say something to inspire the public and win votes so they just say nothing.

Very annoying that the campaign is being run on a vote for us or you might get them basis and not on a vote for us because this is what we believe. If that doesn't help build a case for rethinking the voting system I don't know what is.
