Great Southside Giveaway - Cookie and the Citz

Cookie and The Citizen's theatre have recently teamed up to offer a 15% discount on pre-theatre food to people holding valid Citizen's tickets. "We want to put the theatre back into pre-theatre, we also want to let you wine and dine after the show. Our 2 course set menu costs only £10 for pre-theatre dining for patrons and we will have a taxi waiting for you."
Both places are on our favourite list so this sounds like a great deal and with the new season underway at The Citizen's there are lots of good reasons to give it a try.
To celebrate this new deal we are pleased to offer pre-theatre dinner for two at Cookie and two tickets to see Marilyn at the Citz this Thursday night 10 March @ 7:30pm. All you need to do to enter the prize draw is tell us "Your best Southside Secret" *. There will also be some runners up tickets too so get entering, Winners will be announed on the Blog tomorrow morning so check back to see if you've won.
The usual Giveaway rules apply, click here to read

Marilyn
"During the summer of 1960, Marilyn Monroe and French actress Simone Signoret live in adjacent apartments at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Thrown together while Monroe films the movie Let’s Make Love with Signoret’s husband Yves Montand, the pair form an uneasy friendship, plagued by jealousy and insecurity. Under the watchful eye of Patti, hairdresser to the stars, it will become a relationship that will test their deepest beliefs and threaten to destroy them both."

* This could be a place to have a picnic, your best cafe, restuarant and interesting piece of street art or something altogether more personal if you feel like sharing.

Margaret's Hairdressers in Skirving Street. Been there 40 years, and many of her clients have been with her from the beginning. She and Marian look after the customers with extraordinary care - they are shepherded to and fro in taxis, walked home, and generally given an astonishing level of personal care. There are, to be fair, not many young ladies joining the client list, so it was particularly heartening this week to see Margaret had invested in new signage, the first since 1983. This is the kind of business that should be subsidised by the public purse, as it provides a social service that is as invaluable as it is rare.

My southside secrets:
1. Camphill Fort. At the top of QP hill, variously populated by Britons, Romans and Normans and probably the oldest structure in the city,
2. Mary's Stone. Up Old Castle Rd, past the Smiddy, hit the trees and turn left.... Where Mary QoS is supposed to have watched the Battle of Langside, there's a really nice monogramed stone to mark the spot.
3. Queen's Park Church of Scotland. Where there are stained glass windows and plaques in memory of Jane Haining, the only Scot to die at Auschwitz.
That'll do for the now!

There is a little gift shop on Battlefield road on the hill going up to the park. Its called Pink Wafer, it is so so great for buying gifts and cards, they also do the most amazing scented candles that are very reasonably priced. http://www.pinkwafer.co.uk/contacts-us-1-w.asp

My other favourite south side haunt is Arturo's in Mount Florida. Its is a deli sandwich shop. The owner (Arturo) is Portuguese but has lived in New York most his life, so he makes a mean sandwich! All his bread is from Tapa and he really doent scrimp on the fillings! You can buy amazing Milano Salami from him too. You need to be patient as he takes his time making the sanwiches! Its great!
