Migrant Voice exhibition at the Govanhill Baths

Just been sent the below about an event happening in Govanhill Baths this weekend.

"Migrant Voice is celebrating the ‘Engaging Pictures’ exhibition presenting migrants’ contribution to Scotland.

A unique opportunity to experience poetry in different languages, including Russian, English, French, Polish, Italian, Iranian, Lithuanian and Norwegian! No knowledge of any of those languages is needed in order to be able to understand them as our carefully selected poems are rich on the sound level, full of onomatopoeias, rhyme and rhythm. The audience will be asked to guess the meanings behind the foreign sounds.

The event participants will also have the opportunity to sing along to Scottish traditional songs and take part in dancing session led by a group of international dancers.

The 'Engaging Pictures' exhibition shows photographs and stories representing ten migrants' lives and their contribution to life in Scotland. It is the culmination of the 'Engaging Pictures' project, which has brought together migrants and Scots to engage in a dialogue and promote a better integrated Scotland.
Photographs by Portrait Photographer, Karen Gordon.

Nazek Ramadan, Migrant Voice Director said:
“The 'Engaging Pictures' exhibition aims to present a more accurate and positive portrayal of migrants, their role as an integral part of the community and their contribution to life in their new home.

This is particularly important at a time when the rhetoric in the debate on migration is increasingly negative. The 'latest measures such as the 'Go Home Posters' in Glasgow and the latest Immigration Bill where landlords and GPs will check and inform on immigration status, is leading to a toxic atmosphere and the development of increasing hostility, xenophobia, discrimination and intolerance towards migrants.”

Welcome to the Southside Happenings site, documenting our adventures, things to do, places to see, and other information on the Southside of Glasgow.
          documenting our adventures,
I am not sure how you would categorise this site, it’s not a ‘what’s on guide’ …it’s just some interesting stories about what we’re doing, or planning to do, in the Southside of Glasgow. [Now and again we might stray across the river, don’t hold it against us].
          documenting our adventures,
Hopefully you’ll enjoy reading this, it may give you an idea of what to do on your next day off, night out, or maybe just something to read during your tea break.
documenting our adventures, things to do Please feel free to add your comments, suggestions or tell us we’re completely wrong. If you know of an interesting event or a place worth a visit, feel free to get in touch with us.
